L'ingresso costa circa 8 euro. Il centro storico è perfetto per una passeggiata a piedi. Le vie sono strette e ripide, i palazzi signorili ben conservati. Non aspettarti negozi di souvenir ovunque: Urbino rimane una città autentica, non una trappola turistica. I prezzi dei ristoranti sono nella norma per il centro Italia. Per arrivarci in auto da Ancona contate circa 2 ore. Il parcheggio può essere difficile durante l'alta stagione, meglio arrivare presto. Se venite in treno, dalla stazione di Pesaro ci sono autobus che raggiungono Urbino in circa 1 ora. Urbino (UNESCO 1998) è la città rinascimentale di Federico da Montefeltro — il condottiero più colto del Rinascimento italiano, che trasformò un borgo medievale in uno dei più importanti centri culturali d'Europa. Il Palazzo Ducale (Galleria Nazionale delle Marche, €8) contiene la Flagellazione di Cristo di Piero della Francesca (uno dei dipinti più studiati della storia dell'arte, sala principale), la Città Ideale (attribuita alla cerchia di Piero), i ritratti di Federico di Pedro Berruguete. Il palazzo stesso (Luciano Laurana, 1468-1472) è tra i più raffinati edifici rinascimentali d'Italia. La Casa di Raffaello (Via Raffaello, €4) è la casa natale del pittore — piccola ma autenticamente medievale. La città è rimasta congelata nel XV sec.
Conero e Sibillini
Il Monte Conero (572 m, Parco Naturale Regionale) è il solo promontorio calcareo sull'Adriatico — Portonovo (ghiaia bianca, acqua cristallina), Mezzavalle (solo a piedi 30 min da Portonovo, la spiaggia più bella delle Marche), Sirolo e Numana (stabilimenti e spiaggia sabbiosa). Ancona (capoluogo, 20 km dal Conero) ha il Duomo romanico di San Ciriaco (XI sec., sulla collina sopra il porto) e l'Arco di Traiano (115 d.C., il porto romano). I Sibillini (Parco Nazionale, al confine con l'Umbria) hanno i Piani di Castelluccio (1.452 m, fioritura delle lenticchie a maggio-giugno). Ascoli Piceno (sud delle Marche) ha la più bella piazza del travertino d'Italia (Piazza del Popolo) e le olive ascolane (olive ripiene di carne fritte — inventate qui nel XIX sec.).
