Anfiteatro Romano di Catania

Excavated in the mid-19th century from Piazza Stesicoro, this 2nd-century Roman amphitheater once held up to 7,000 spectators and demonstrates sophisticated Roman engineering techniques. Its well-preserved opus caementicium construction reveals the scale of Catania's importance in the Roman world.
