Hiking trail
Starting from the unmistakable silhouette of Monviso, the Stone King that towers over the Cottian Alps, this five-day trek carves a wild and unforgettable route through the heart of the Queyras massif, ending at the Chaberton summit with its extraordinary abandoned military fortress perched above the clouds. The trail winds through solitary valleys, alpine lakes of an almost surreal blue, and meadows scattered with edelweiss and gentians, where chamois and marmots are frequent companions. Italian and French slopes alternate in a seamless conversation between border cultures, stone villages, working mountain pastures, and silences that belong only to true wilderness. Rated EE by the CAI, the route demands good fitness and confidence on alpine terrain, yet it remains accessible to any determined hiker with a spirit of adventure. Summer brings full bloom and long golden days, while early autumn paints the larch forests amber and clears the paths of crowds, offering an even more intimate experience. Dogs are welcome to join their owners on this remarkable cross-border traverse, making it a journey to share with those you love most.
